Description: The sequence starts with reworked loess, sandy loess and fine sand wearing locally the Vroenhoven Podsol on top of which a very characteristic clayey loess is often present. In most cases a weak tundra gley is present at the base as well as on top of this clayey loess. Above, laminated and heavily cryoturbated loesst occurs, which is overlain by more homogeneous loess with another tundra gley transferring upwards into laminated and geliflucted sediment (Meijs 2002). The upper part of this member is affected by the pedogenesis of the Hees Pedocomplex of Luvisol type (Meijs, 2002; see Fig. Z).

Stratotype: Western bank of the Albert canal near Kesselt (50°50'30''N / 5°38'10''E); Vlijtingen is a village west of Kesselt.

Paratypeat:

- Eben-Emael (western wall of the CBR chalk quarry at Romont; 50°47'27''N / 5°38'37''E).

Area: East Middle Belgium, on plateau and slopes.

Age: Middle Pleistocene (probably MIS 8 and 7).

Remarks: Synonym: C-loess of Meijs (2002). Equivalent to part of the Hainaut Member sensu Gullentops et al. (2001) (Fig. Y).
